A small business owner's best resource

October 11, 2017

If you are not using social media as a small business owner (or even an individual in direct sales) you are missing out on what I consider to be the greatest resource of the decade. Social media is not just a great way to grow your business, but an opportunity to elevate your business to bigger and greater things. Here are 10 reasons why.

*Side note- Many businesses have a social media presence but are not using it effectively. Do you fall into that category? Continue reading and come back tomorrow to find out HOW to use social media effectively. Hint? Consistency!

1-Social media sites are free!

While you can pay to promote certain ads or products I would love an opportunity to show you how to get your product, brand, or face in front of people without giving Facebook or Instagram any of your hard earned money. It’s a lot easier than most people realize with a few basic tools.

2-Your customers are online!

Whether you think social media is important is irrelevant- your customers and potential customers are online. In 2008, 24 percent of people in the US had a social media profile. That number is up to 81% in 2017.

3-Show off your brand!

The Marketing Rule of 7 states that a prospect needs to “hear” an advertiser's message at least 7 times before they will take action to buy that product or service. That’s only 7 days of specific, well thought out social media posts.

4-Reviews!

Social media gives satisfied customers an opportunity to write a review about a business. If a customer gives you a compliment, don’t be shy! Ask them to share that positive experience online, in a review on Google or Facebook, by posting a photo on Instagram, or tweeting that experience on Twitter.

5-Exposure!

Get your face in front of people you may not interact with otherwise. People need to associate a business, especially a small business, with a face or a family. The more they see of an individual or family, the more likely they are to support or frequent that business. Share the photo of your family on vacation, your child with his soccer trophy, or the awesome shot of you and your 4 legged best friend. Are you solo? Share a photo of yourself- doing something at work that you love.

6-Introduce your products and services to more people!

With photo sharing sites like Instagram, subject boards on Pinterest, and professional sites like LinkedIn, the possibilities are endless.

7-Learn more about your competition!

With a social media presence you can view what others in the same industry are doing- a majority, if not all, business social media sites are public.

8- Build relationships!

Social media isn’t about being a salesman or pushing a product someone does not need.  Social media is a two-way channel that gives you the opportunity to enrich relationships with your customers. A social media conversation between a company and a customer is something traditional advertising will never be able to achieve.

9- Show off what you can do!

Whether it’s an awesome cut, color or blowout at your hair salon, a home you built, a recipe you created (people love food posts! Probably because we all love to eat) or an outfit with accessories you put together. Show it off! Don’t be modest- nobody else is on social media. Why should you be?

10- Variety of sites!

There are numerous sites and ways to reach current and potential customers. Questions about what sites are best for your business? Check out my website for a variety of resources or call me for a free quote.
